It wasn’t that long ago that calling someone a coward would result in the insulted party challenging the hurler
of the insult to a duel. Fortunately for Eric Holder, that custom is no longer in style, because his comments on February
18 were considered an insult by tens of millions of Americans.
Holder, the Attorney General of the United States – excuse me, the first
black Attorney General of the United States – spoke to a group of State
Department employees to mark “Black History Month.” Oh, excuse me again,
but wasn’t the election of Obama supposed to have put the issue of race behind
us? I guess not, because it’s still being shoved down the throats of millions of people who have just about had
enough of it. And I’m one of them.
Holder stated, “Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an
ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards.” Holder believes that Americans “…simply
do not talk enough with each other about race.” He then whined that even though the races are mixed at their places
of employment during the work week, they flee to their “race-protected cocoons”
on the weekend. “On Saturdays and Sundays, American in the year 2009 does
not in some ways differ significantly from the country that existed almost 50 years ago. This is truly sad.”
Well, excuse me again, this time for being a white man who chooses to spend
his weekends with his similarly white wife in his lily-white suburban cocoon. I didn’t know I was supposed to first
clear that plan with the Attorney General. Can’t she and I have a nice quiet dinner alone, or are we instead supposed
to ring random doorbells looking for someone of another race to join us at the bowling alley? After working Monday through
Wednesday to pay taxes and Thursday and Friday for themselves, are white American fathers not supposed to spend time playing
baseball with their sons or soccer with their daughters and instead find some troubled youths who might appreciate a few pointers
on their three-point shots to help get them out of the ghetto and into the NBA? Are white American mothers not supposed to
help their kids with their homework and instead baby-sit the infants of “baby moms” so they can go out with yet
another boyfriend to father their next illegitimate child?
I’ve got news for Eric Holder. Those of us who grew up in the 1950s saw race relations steadily improving – until the government stepped in with “Great Society” programs and a “war on
poverty” that did nothing but cause black families to disintegrate, while costing American taxpayers trillions of dollars.
In the 1950s many black families were struggling – but they generally had fathers in the home. You could be pretty certain
that if a black woman in 1957 had four children they all had the same father. Today one can safely assume the opposite. What
caused the change? It was certainly not intentional efforts by average white Americans to destroy black families. No, it was
the misguided programs of liberals in the United States government.
The unaccomplished thug now in the White House got there through a combination of black racism and white guilt. Do
not tell me I am incorrect. When more than 90 per cent of one voting group casts their ballots the same way there is no denying
the obvious. And for those white voters who chose Obama on November 4 because of misguided race-guilt, shame on them for making
a decision based on emotion rather than logic, for feeling rather than thinking. They may have exited the polling place feeling
morally superior, but they are fools for having been so easily suckered by Obama and his media accomplices.
Holder can postulate that Americans are cowards for not discussing race more openly. If Holder wants to be critical
of tens of millions of Americans, that is his right. But he should speak on his own dime, not mine. He’s the public
servant, and I am the taxpayer. Holder works for me. Before he opens his trap to insult me again, let me set the record straight.
Race is equivalent to the color of one’s eyes or one’s height. It is irrelevant to one’s value as
a human being. In raising my children I did my best to not make an issue of race. If we were shopping and I thought my son
should ask a clerk in the store for help, I would recommend “the lady in the red dress.” I would not tell him
to “ask that black lady.” At the grocery store I would tell my daughter to get in “check-out line three,”
not “the line over there with the black guy.”
My plan to make my children color-blind was continually thwarted, of course, by the incessant beating of the race drum
by the media – which could be counted on to emphasize that Mr. X. was the first black something, or that Ms. Y was the
first black something else. I was never quite sure how to make my kids understand that race was irrelevant when it was constantly
being portrayed as a prominent measure of a person’s worth. My children are now adults and I believe they have weathered
well the politically-correct storm, but I can’t say the same about our nation.
If I started a National Association for the Advancement of White People I would be promptly run out of town. How about
a United Caucasian College
Fund? A Congressional White Caucus? White Entertainment Television? For those Americans who naively thought the black equivalents
of those organizations would all go away with the election of Obama I can only say, “No,
there will be more of them… and you will probably be funding them with your tax dollars.”
What Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Jeremiah Wright, and all
the other race pimps will soon come to realize is that the backlash is coming. A big
backlash. There is a mountain of anger out there among average Americans who have had enough, who have grown tired of
being politically correct, tired of being made to feel guilty for crimes they have not committed, tired of footing the bill
for anti-poverty programs that are essentially disguised make-blacks-forever-dependent-on-Democrats-in-Washington programs,
and tired of being afraid to speak their minds. To that extent Holder is correct – many Americans are cowards, remaining
silent out of fear of being called a racist.
But I am not one of the silent Americans. So, take a listen Mr. Holder, listen and listen tight. I’m not about
to pull any punches.
I do not have any “black friends.” I do, however, have friends who happen to be
black. You probably would not approve of them, and would refer to them as “Uncle Toms” because they have readily
integrated into American culture. They have jobs, they support their families, they do not father children out of wedlock, they pay their taxes as required by law (unlike many Obama appointees), they do not
assume victim status when struck by occasional misfortune, and they are conservative in their political philosophies. Unlike
you, Mr. Holder, they believe in harsh penalties for criminals and terrorists, and the right of Americans to own guns.
I do not hate people because they are black. I hate people who record and sell rap “music”
that glorifies the killing of police officers and denigrates women by calling them “ho’s” and treating them
like toys that can be discarded at any time. I hate people who rob convenience stores, killing the innocent employee behind
the counter in order to get cash for a drug buy. I hate people who want something for nothing and who think the world owes
them a living. I hate men who beat their wives, women who abuse their husbands, and anyone who harms children. I hate those
people regardless of their race. I am an equal opportunity hater of the low-lifes of the planet.
Voting against Obama does not mean one is a racist. It means the voter does not agree with
the collectivist principles in which Obama believes, and which will lead America
further down the path to self-destruction. I voted against Obama not because he is black, but because he is a socialist with
fascist tendencies who is anathema to what America
stands for. Put Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, and Clarence Thomas on the ballot and I will be first in line to vote for
them.
Former Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro was correct when she said during the primary season
that “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman - of any color - he would not
be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.” In defending
her accurate but politically incorrect comment, Ferraro also recognized that her own national-ticket candidacy was a result
of her gender with her admission that “In 1984, if my name were Gerard Ferraro instead of Geraldine Ferraro, I would
never have been chosen as the vice president (nominee).” For being honest, Ferraro was pilloried by the media. Because
she was working on Hillary Clinton’s campaign the media then had an excuse to unjustly
associate Clinton with
racism. Obama didn’t turn down that media help, he took advantage of it. He’s another race pimp.
If a thief breaks into my house and I stop him with a gun or a baseball bat, I am acting in
self-defense. You and your new boss believe not only that I should be charged with a crime, but that I should be liable for
damages for any injuries suffered by the burglar if I shoot him or hit him over the head. If the burglar happens to be black
I am not guilty of a hate crime for acting in self-defense. I am protecting my family. He belongs in jail. I do not deserve
to be harassed by a politically correct District Attorney.
Al Sharpton and Charles Rangel should be prosecuted for tax evasion – now. They owe
the IRS a fortune in back taxes and should not get a pass because they are black.
Businessmen who allow themselves to be extorted by Jesse Jackson or Sharpton should be ashamed
of themselves. They should instead file extortion charges against any thug demanding payoffs in exchange for “race peace”
or “labor peace.” That the thug may be wearing an Armani suit and be a darling of the media is irrelevant. Jackson
and Sharpton, ever lusting for power, could not succeed in getting it by being elected – even blacks rejected them at
the ballot box. Why should American businesses (and their unwilling customers) give them power by acquiescing to extortion?
I am tired of the fuss made of “the first black” this or the “first woman”
that or the “first Chinese-American midget” such and such. It is no longer relevant. Period. America will never “get over” race or gender discrimination
if we keep making a fuss about everyone’s race and gender. If Halle
Berry’s Academy Award was for her acting abilities, her acceptance speech
should not have been about race. If her Oscar was because of her race, she should give it back.
People are behind bars because they committed crimes. If black or Hispanic criminals are jailed
in higher proportions than their general percentages in the population, that only means they are committing crimes in higher
percentages. There are very few little old ladies in prison but that is not because the police and the courts let them go
after robbing liquor stores – it is because they are not robbing liquor stores. If you can’t do the time, don’t
do the crime. The homicide rate for 18-24 year old black men is 10 times that of whites. Most of those homicides are blacks
killing blacks. (More than 90 per cent of blacks who are murdered are killed by blacks.) Statistics show that in the first
six months of 2008 in New York City, over 90 per cent of assaults
with guns were perpetrated by blacks and Hispanics. There is no white racist standing behind them urging them to break the
law. The black incarceration rate is seven times that of whites. If you want fewer blacks and Hispanics in prison, persuade
them to stop committing crimes.
The black illegitimacy rate is about 70 per cent. (It’s about 25 per cent for whites,
substantially lower but still shameful.) Young black girls should be taught in no uncertain terms that having children out
of wedlock will place them in a lifelong cycle of poverty. (Of course this will now be more difficult with Obama’s “stimulus
package,” which increases welfare spending and encourages more hand-out abuse and dependence on the government.)
Young black boys should be taught that fathering a child and then walking away from the responsibility
of providing for it is not a sign of manhood. It is a sign of shame, irresponsibility, and moral depravity. Dropping out of
high school, fathering a child and refusing to be responsible for it, and joining a gang is not a path to success.
The black high school drop-out rate is almost 50 per cent in many urban schools. The black
illiteracy rate is 70 per cent. That has nothing to do with spending per student, which has gone up steadily since the 1950s.
It has to do with young men fathering children out of wedlock and then abandoning them, black students ridiculing young achievers
for “acting white,” and school bureaucracies that eagerly impose “dumbed down” curricula while lacking
the courage to impose badly-needed discipline in classrooms. Many of the inner-city
schools that are having so much trouble are in schools districts and cities run by blacks and liberals, so don’t blame
white conservatives when their advice is ignored.
Quotas and affirmative action programs should be eliminated. If an individual does not meet
the standards of a particular college or university he should attend a different school. Quotas do nothing but place students
in positions where they are in over their heads and are destined for failure. “Dumbing down” the performance standards
does nothing but reduce the reputation of the school. (Anyone who has read Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis understands
not to respect a degree from Princeton.)
Hiring on the basis of race harms blacks more than it helps them. If an employer understands
that firing a black employee means a lawsuit, he will go out of his way not to hire him in the first place. When I board an
airplane, I want to know that the pilot was hired because he is competent, not because of his race. When the surgeon recommends
an operation, I want to know that his medical diploma on the wall was an achievement and not a quota gift. If I know I can
trust the diploma, the surgeon’s race is irrelevant. If I know that diplomas from that medical school are handed out
for reasons other than competence, I’ll find another surgeon.
Modern textbooks notwithstanding, George Washington deserves more attention than George Washington
Carver. Yes, Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, but had he not been around to help establish the United
States, blacks in North America might still be slaves. Put things in
their proper perspective. History should not need to be re-written for political correctness. Thomas Edison was Caucasian,
but so was John Wayne Gacy. History has enough room to accommodate the good and the bad from all races.
Slavery ended over 140 years ago. There are no longer any living slaves in the United States, nor are there any living slave owners. Get
over it. Eliminate all ideas of “slavery reparations,” and realize that the United States is the nation which provides the best chance of success for any person,
of any race, who is willing to work hard. No other country offers such opportunity. If freedom and opportunity isn’t
enough for some people, too bad. Confiscating wealth from those who earned it to give to those who didn’t will not make
matters better, it will just make everyone suffer and cause resentment.
Yes, black people were treated terribly in the past. So were the Chinese, Irish, Japanese,
Italians, Koreans and every other group of people that came to the United States – and they all had the added disadvantage
of not being able to speak the language. If they could succeed with hard work and without affirmative action programs, so
too can everybody else.
The economy is not a “zero sum” game. If someone has more than you that doesn’t
mean he stole it from someone else. If you don’t think your piece of the pie is large enough, work harder to make the
pie bigger rather than whine that your neighbor got a bigger piece. Maybe he was hard at work baking at 5 am while you were
still sleeping.
Black Americans need to learn to stop looking at themselves as victims and blaming every incident
of misfortune as a product of racism. Perhaps you got fired because you were a lousy employee, not because you are black.
White people did not invent the AIDS virus in order to kill black people. Sickle-cell anemia is not a conspiracy, any more
than are freckles on people with red hair.
Whites wanted O. J. Simpson convicted not because he is black but because he sliced his ex-wife’s
head off and killed her friend. He’s a murderer. Admit it. Letting Simpson off the hook didn’t “punish”
whites, it only angered them – and the celebrations of Simpson’s release made them suspect that most blacks were
racists or fools.
“Fair” and “equal” do not mean the same thing. Equal rights under
the law is not the same as equal outcomes. The fact that X per cent of the population
is black does not mean that X per cent of the plumbers or car salesmen or pastry chefs must be black. Stay in school, apply
yourself, choose whatever career you like. But don’t play the quota numbers games. They are demeaning, and hurt everyone
in the long run.
So, there you have some of my thoughts, Mr. Holder. Do you still wish to call me a coward for failing to face the facts?
Or is it you who obfuscate the facts in order to help your own career while encouraging others to be victims at their own
expense?
Perhaps I have insulted you with my comments. So be it. I’m ready for the duel, and I am prepared to meet on
the field of battle on election day of 2010. Until then you, your President, and your fellow Democrats can choose to continue
to insult Americans while acting to destroy the last remnants of America’s
greatness. When the time comes, choose your weapon wisely. I will choose the ballot box.
May the better philosophy win.
